BRICKYARD FILMWORKS of Boston specializes in visual effects and computer-generated imagery for feature films. The bi-coastal firm was founded in 2008 by the originators of Brickyard VFX, a ten year-old commercial visual effects studio with offices
in Boston, Ma. and Santa Monica, California. Brickyard’s first class reputation as a visual effects producer is now expanding into original production through their partnership on “Hypergraphia” with Lorenzo DeStefano’s Productions A-Propos. The deep experience that Brickyard principals Dave Waller, Geoff McAuliffe and Michael McCarthy bring to the short & feature projects extends not only to the visual effects component but to the role of key production partner and on-the-ground representative of “Hypergraphia” in Massachusetts, where significant State production incentives and funding opportunities are available to a locally-produced and set production like ours.

Dave began collecting rusty relics at the tender age of seven, when he bought a sap boiler at a Vermont auction for a dollar. In the years since, he discovered that it might not work as a profession, so he switched to Visual Effects, building a full scale Millennium Falcon cockpit in his mom's barn out of some lite-brites and Styrofoam packing material. He founded Brickyard in 1999 after working in various visual effects shops around Boston, New York and Chicago. The idea was to build a place where he could concentrate on quality – the highest possible quality effects and a quality working environment for clients and employees alike. But it turned into something more – a place to store all that rusty stuff.

Geoff McAuliffe's visual artistry—as well as his accent—can be traced back to Northern England, where he honed fine art skills working with architectural, interior and graphic design. For the past 15 years (after moving to Los Angeles) Geoff has applied his flair for illustration and design to the world of high-end visual effects. At 525 Studios, he collaborated with a veritable who’s who of feature film, music video and commercial directors, including Dayton/Faris, Michael Bay, Gore Verbinski, McG, Hype Williams, Paul Hunter, Bruce Dowad, Sam Bayer, Martin Weisz and Michel Gondry. Many of those relationships continue on here at Brickyard plus a bevy of new fans from Boston and beyond. His creation of these and other award-winning projects make him a repeat-business magnet for his regular stable of Geoff-loving clients. ”For me, it’s not just about pushing buttons or knowing the technical tricks,” Geoff says. “I really draw and paint. And I cry real tears and sweat real blood over my projects. I love to be involved creatively, to try out new ideas, solve difficult problems and influence the final look of the project."

Industry veteran Michael McCarthy makes his return to Brickyard after five years as a visual effects producer working bi-coastally with top creative companies and directors on a variety of ads and campaigns. He got his start in the industry as an Assistant Editor/Post Supervisor at Propaganda Films in Los Angeles after graduating from Emerson College with Bachelor of Arts in Communications. In his new post McCarthy will oversee, manage and produce special projects and feature film visual effects for Brickyard. "I'm really excited to be back at Brickyard and am looking forward to extending our visual effects service slate into feature film and special venue projects," said McCarthy. "I've known the Brickyard team for many years, so coming back here is like a homecoming."
